L’Angolo di Amélie is a cultural association based in Monterotondo, in the province of Rome, which has been promoting intercultural dialogue through international arthouse cinema for many years.

For this year’s edition of Novembre Nordico, we have chosen the Norwegian film A Happy Day, directed by Hisham Zaman.

It tells the story of three teenage friends stuck in a frozen landscape at a Norwegian centre for young asylum seekers. The three teenagers dream of what lies beyond the snow and ice and decide to devise a plan to escape, cross the mountains and reach a world where their wishes can come true. Their repeated attempts to escape from the centre always prove unsuccessful, just like the 18th-birthday celebrations organised by the centre before deportation orders come into effect. This time, however, their plan seems perfect and destined to succeed, until one of them falls in love.
